Getting Here and Around
There are so many ways to get to the Western Downs — regardless of whether you want to take the wheel, or sit back and enjoy the ride. Most of the region is accessible by any car, and towns are usually no more than two hours apart. For the off-road enthusiast, there are plenty of opportunities to go bush and explore secret attractions, taking forgotten roads meandering through spectacular country scenery.
If the romance of train travel lures you, Queensland Rail offers a unique journey aboard the Westlander, which runs through the Western Downs and out to Charleville. Flights are also operated by Qantas to Roma and many towns have their own airport that allow charter flights.
To reach Queensland's Western Downs, visitors travel:
North-west from Brisbane on the Warrego Highway
